Health innovation challenge fund – Closing date: 5th May, 2015
Deadline information: Preliminary applications due by 5 May; invited full applications due by 7 September 2015.
The Wellcome Trust and the Department of Health invite applications for their health innovation challenge fund. A total of £10 million is available to support the creation and development of innovative healthcare products, technologies and interventions for the benefit of patients in the NHS and beyond. Projects should address one of the following themes: surgical technologies; innovative diagnostics; trauma and critical care medicine; repurposing of technologies and medicines; biological therapeutics
Pathfinder awards – Closing date: 29th June, 2015
Funding amount: upto £350,000 (usually capped at £100,000 over 18 months). This call is repeated 4 times a year
The Wellcome Trust invites applications for its pathfinder awards. These support innovative early-stage applied R&D projects in areas of unmet medical need. Funding priorities include the following:
•discrete high quality experiments to demonstrate proof-of-concept data assay development;
•intellectual property development for critical experiment to validate IP;
•stimulating product development that could ultimately improve the outlook for patients with orphan and neglected diseases;
•encouraging effective partnership between a public sector applicant and a company partner.
Health technology assessment, commissioned calls – closing date: 24 Sep 2015
Proposals are sought on the following topics: treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head / a clinical decision aid to inform the management of lower urinary tract symptoms in men in primary care/ interventions for adults with spasticity due to cerebral palsy/ multi-modal retinal imaging for surveillance of patients with treated diabetic eye disease / extended rehabilitation for older frail people after acute illness or injury/ thresholds for intervention in fever among critically ill children / specialist intensive rehabilitation for lower limb amputees/ methylphenidate in cancer-related fatigue.
Public health research programme – public mental health themed call – closing date: 1 May, 2015
The Department of Health’s National Institute for Health Research invites outline proposals for its public mental health themed call under the public health research programme. This supports evaluations of public health interventions to improve mental health.
Applications are welcome from any sector. Applicants are strongly advised to consider establishing partnerships with other relevant sectors or organisations.
Skills development fellowships – expertise at the social science interface -closing date: 16 June, 2015
Deadline information: Applications are invited between 5 May and 16 June 2015. This call is repeated once a year.
The Medical Research Council invites applications for its skills development fellowships – expertise at the social science interface. These support training for very early career researchers in, or individuals changing disciplines to, areas of health economics and mixed methods research.
