The Economic and Social Research Council and the Department for International Development invite proposals for their growth research programme on financial sector development and growth. Funding supports research on financial sector development and growth in low income countries. Proposals must address the following areas:
•the role international capital flows play in the financial development, economic growth and development trajectories of low-income countries;
•developing and maintaining economic growth and the role institutional frameworks play in inclusive financial development;
•financial systems as a catalyst and a channel for technological diffusion in low-income countries.
Researchers based anywhere in the world in higher education institutions, research organisations or other organisations with a credible research capacity may apply. Collaborations with public, private or non-governmental organisations are welcome but the principal investigator must be based at a research organisation.
One grant, worth between £1.5 million and £2m, is available. Funding covers 80 per cent full economic cost for UK-based researchers and 100 per cent full economic cost for non-UK researchers.
