Academic colleagues with previous peer review and/or panel experience working for research funders are invited by the British Council to register their interest in becoming reviewers for the Newton Fund.
The Newton Fund is a £735m investment by the UK Government over the period 2014-2021 to support research, innovation and capacity building in 16 partner countries in the developing world. Representing a significant new investment which opens up the opportunity for UK researchers to collaborate with a range of countries for which funding was not previously available.
Having a number of researchers from the university acting as reviewers would enhance institutional knowledge about the assessment process and provide invaluable insight that could improve the competitiveness of both their own and colleagues’ proposals in the future. We would therefore like to encourage anyone interested in becoming a reviewer – and meets the broad criteria outline below – to register their interest.
What the British Council are looking for
The British Council are looking for senior researchers who are willing to use their experience to support the review process, as well as mid-career researchers (defined as holding a PhD and more than 5 years of research experience) who would like to broaden their experience of peer review as a career development opportunity. Please note that we can only consider researchers based at UK institutions.
Researchers should have previous peer review and/or panel experience, as well as experience in one of the following specialisms:
- Arts and Humanities (we are especially keen to find reviewers who specialise in cultural heritage)
- Biological and Medical Sciences (we are especially keen to find reviewers who specialise in biodiversity)
- Engineering and Physical Sciences
- Environmental, Agricultural and Food Sciences
- Social Sciences
