Apply to Host an Event at the ESRC’s Fifteenth Festival of Social Science

The Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) annual Festival of Social Science is a week-long celebration that takes place around the UK to promote awareness of social sciences and ESRC’s research. Through its programme of activities, social scientists are able to engage with non-academic audiences and increase awareness of the contributions the social sciences make to the economy and the wellbeing of UK society. In 2017, the festival will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary and is hoping to reach more people and parts of the UK than ever.

The ESRC is currently inviting applications from individual researchers who are interested in hosting social science focused events that could be incorporated into the next festival, taking place on 4-11 November 2017. Previous festivals have included activities such as film screenings, virtual activities, hands-on activities, debates, outdoor events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions.

In 2017, the ESRC Festival team is particularly keen to receive applications for events:

  • To be held in London or the East of England.
  • Run by or featuring early career researchers.
  • From first-time organisers.
  • That are aimed at specialist interest audiences.
  • That encourage participation from children or young people.

If applicants require financial help to host their event, sponsorship of up to £1,000 per event is available. Applicants can also put forward an event for the Festival even if they don’t need funding from the ESRC.

The deadline for applications to hold a sponsored event is 5 May 2017 (4pm) and the deadline for non-sponsored event applications is 12 May 2017 (4pm).

Further information, application forms and guidance can be obtained from the ESRC website or by emailing festival@esrc.ac.uk
